The single biggest factor in how fast you receive your Title 24 report is how complete your submission is at the start. Here's a practical checklist of what to gather before reaching out to a consultant.
First, basic project information: the site address (needed to confirm the correct climate zone), the project type (ADU, addition, remodel, new construction, commercial), and the conditioned square footage of the space involved.
Second, your floor plan. This should be dimensioned and show room layout clearly enough to identify square footage by room or zone. A hand-sketched plan is workable if dimensions are clear; a CAD or architectural plan set is ideal.
Third, your window schedule. List every window in the conditioned space with its approximate size, and if known, its specifications — particularly U-factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC), often found on the manufacturer's NFRC label. If you haven't selected windows yet, standard manufacturer specifications can be used as placeholders, but final numbers should be confirmed before installation.
Fourth, your HVAC system. At minimum, the system type (central forced air, ductless mini-split, etc.) and proposed efficiency rating (SEER2 for cooling, AFUE or HSPF2 depending on system type). If equipment hasn't been selected, a consultant can recommend a baseline efficiency target that's achievable for your climate zone.
Fifth, water heating equipment — gas tankless, heat pump water heater, standard tank, etc.
Sixth, insulation values for walls, ceiling/roof, and floor (if applicable) — either as specified R-values or a general description of the assembly (e.g., '2x6 walls with batt insulation') if exact values aren't yet finalized.
Finally, for commercial projects, add: occupancy type, lighting plan or fixture schedule, and any process loads specific to the business type (commercial kitchen equipment, server rooms, etc.).
Gathering this upfront — even in rough form — typically cuts report turnaround from several days of back-and-forth to a single 24-48 hour cycle.
